The 1st Winning Competition - The Business Case Challenge

The Business Case Institute in partnership with Winning Scientific Management and Move presents the 1st edition of The Business Case Challenge in Lisbon.

BC Challenge Cartaz

This competition aims to teach and prepare university students on how to make a decision regarding projects investments in an enterprise environment, with which may have contact during their professional careers.

With this initiative, the Business Case Institute and its partners aim college students and finalists to learn about the Business Case Methodology (BCBOK®) and the Business Case Toolkit, that have been gradually recognized by business managers as key tools for businesses sustainability. According to Cláudia Teixeira - BCI CEO - «these methodologies allow companies management to be more efficient and based on scientific management assumptions. Typically, most of organizations are able to identify the qualitative benefits of the proposed initiatives, but these are rarely presented in a quantified economically and in a credible way. With these methodologies companies are able to know the return of each initiative at every moment and two teams following the same process, should get very similar results. »

The competition comprises a learning program in which will be addressed problem solving techniques, communication strategies and several types of analysis and estimation techniques. «We want to reduce the competencies gap that exist at this level in the market by providing to young college students some tools through which they can enhance their curriculum for professional future purposes. » says Leandro Pereira, President of the BCI.

At the end of the competition «the participants will know how to formulate an initiative, from the moment the idea is generated, until the formulation of the expected benefits and their monitoring in the future, so participants can elaborate their recommendations based on the economic viability of the project, if it has potential and how much it will be represented in terms of economic gains, based on a scientific management process», explains Cláudia Teixeira.

The Business Case Challenge is composed by 2 rounds, in which the 1st round will be held in 5 universities (Nova SBE, Católica-Lisbon SBE, IST, ISEG and ISCTE-IUL) where students will have a workshop (training) followed by a challenge to test the acquired knowledge.

The first round will be on February 13, which will start with a morning workshop concerning the Business Case Methodology and during the afternoon period contestants will have to solve a case study, according to the BCBOK® and present it. The winning team of each university will compete in the Grand Final on April 30.

During the 1st round the 5 winning teams will receive a training course valued on 1000€ in “Business Case Foundations” supplied by Winning Scientific Management. The prize for the winning team of the Grand Final will be a paid internship at Winning and certification provided by the Business Case Institute.
